Casa Del Mar Hotel Review

by Touring Mama on February 13, 2010

When we were in Cozumel we stayed at the Casa Del Mar.  This hotel was nice enough for the price.  We booked it on Expedia as a package and it ended up costing about $60 a night.  For every 3 nights stay you got a “free” day car rental, three free days with a week long stay.  You had to pay the insurance on the car rental which was $17 for liability (mandatory) and $17 for collision (optional).  The rooms were clean and every day there was a new animal made out of towels awaiting us.  Turtles, lobsters, and even elephants brought delight to the kids.  We had a room with a balcony which is slightly bigger than a standard room and cost about $5 more per day.  There were also cabanas available which looked really nice, but were significantly more expensive.  There is a pool and spa on site and a small beach area with hammocks, umbrellas, and ocean access across the street (accessible via a bridge so there is no worry about the kids and traffic).  The dive shop is located on the dock adjacent to the beach area and there is a roped in swimming area on one side and some great snorkeling on the other side of the dock.  In addition to the small beach area at the hotel a beach club is available for guest use.  The beach club is further south and requires a cab ride to reach, but it is beautiful and kayaking, parasailing and other activities are offered there.  The food at the hotel is ok.  I never had anything bad, but I never had anything really good there either.  It was all bland, but edible.  The food at the beach club, however, was quite tasty.   We ate several good meals at both La Hach and Ernestos which are close by.  Casa Del Mar is located about 8 minutes (and $7 cab ride) south of downtown.  It might have been nicer to be within walking distance to town, but there weren’t any hotels with beaches any closer in.   Walking down the road you could tell that many hotels were much fancier, but at 2 or 3 times the price.  I found the service and standards of Casa Del Mar to be an excellent value.
